Updated On: Dec 28 2013 02:06:10 PM CST
Are you ready Wichita? The most unique event of the winter is coming soon! The Wichita Polar Plunge® & Strut – a benefit for Special Olympics Kansas athletes – showcases brave individuals who dare to jump in the icy waters and enjoy a “frosty” frolic.
This extreme event for an extremely good cause will be held at O J Watson Park on February 1. The Polar Strut - a 1-mile run/walk - will be featured again this year. The Strut will begin at 11:30 AM. The Plunge will begin at 12:00 PM. Register here http://www.ksso.org/wichita.
For the past several weeks, individuals and teams have been registering, training, taking pledges and working on their costumes in preparation for this event. For a “bear” minimum of $75, individuals can register to take the plunge and will receive a Polar Plunge sweatshirt.
If you raise more money, you’ll receive additional incentives including: a beach towel (raise $250 - $499), a jacket (raise $500 - $999), and a jacket and a towel ($1000+).
Sound too unbearable? If cold water and ice is not your thing but you would like to receive theevent’s cool incentives, you can register online for a minimum of $75 and declare yourself "Too Chicken!" (no plunge required).
Awards will also be given to the best individual costume, best group costume, best costume couple, highest fundraising individual and highest fundraising team.
