Are you looking for the perfect school for your child?
The 2014 Choices Fair will allow parents to do “one-stop school shopping” to look at the different educational options the district offers for students. The fair will take place at Century II Exhibition Hall on is Thursday, January 30, from 5 PM to 8 PM.
Representatives from 24 magnet schools, the district’s neighborhood schools, alternative middle and high schools, special programs and district support programs will provide information for parents. Parents can visit the different choices available to see what option best meets their child’s educational needs.
This annual fair gives parents and students the opportunity to see which school or program will help their child excel, whether their choice is a magnet school or their neighborhood school. There are no testing or selection criteria to qualify for a magnet school. Students who apply for a magnet school are chosen by random selection.
Parents can apply for magnets online at www.magnet.usd259.org or can receive a paper application at their child’s school. The application deadline for all magnet schools is Friday, February 14 at 4:45 p.m.
All applications must be received in the Magnet Admissions Office. The random computerized lottery for first choice schools will be conducted in late March. Those who are not selected are placed on a random waitlist for all schools that they applied for.
Notification letters will be sent out in late March and early April.
