1)   Ballet Wichita’s Annual Peter Pan Ballet

Why you should go: Ballet Wichita’s Annual Ballet in the Park Series will celebrate its 40th anniversary by showing the classic fairy tale, Peter Pan. The park series will include five separate performances in various parks around the area, running Thursday through Sunday.

The performance will last about 45 minutes and is appropriate for people of all ages. Plus, all performances are FREE!

2)   Thursday Summer Concerts on Bradley Fair Plaza

Time: 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Date: Thursday, June 5, 12, 19, 21, 26, and July 3

Why you should go: Kick-off your summer with the sights and sounds of Bradley Fair’s Thursday Summer Concerts. The summer concert series includes six concerts that will feature professional jazz musicians and occur every Thursday night beginning Thursday, June 5. Sit back and enjoy soothing jazz melodies, all while enjoying the fresh summer air and beautiful sunsets overlooking Bradley Fair Lake.

All concerts are free and open to the public. Notable performances include Opera on the Lake (June 21), a performance of the most famous operas by the Wichita Grand Opera, and Celebrate America Concert (July 3), the final summer concert performance with special fireworks finale.

3)   National Fishing and Boating Week – FREE Fishing Days

Date: Saturday, June 7 – Sunday, June 8
Where: Public Kansas Waters
Cost: FREE

Why you should go: Grab your fishing pole and lawn chair… it’s National Fishing and Boating Week! Celebrate the outdoors this Saturday and Sunday by fishing for FREE at any public body of water in Kansas! No fishing license is required during these two days, but will be required for the rest of the year.

4)   Shrek: The Musical

Why you should go: For the entire month of June, “Shrek the Musical” will come to life on stage at Crown Uptown Theatre with over 20 popular fairytale creatures, visually pleasing stage costumes and sets, and everyone’s favorite swamp-dwelling ogre, Shrek. 

The show will follow the storyline from the 2001 Dreamworks movie “Shrek,” featuring new songs and classic tunes like, “I’m A Believer.” This musical can be enjoyed by all ages, providing entertainment and comedy for every member of the family.

5)   Australian Glass Art Exhibit

Date: May 31 – September 14, 2014
Time: Tues-Sat 10am-5pm; Sun 12pm-5pm
Where: Wichita Art Museum, 1400 W. Museum Blvd., Wichita
Cost: $7 adults; $5 seniors; $3 students and youth 5-17; SATURDAYS FREE FOR EVERYONE

Why you should go: Approximately 90 pieces of handcrafted glass artwork are now on display in the newest exhibition to open at the Wichita Art Museum.

Australian Glass Art is the first American museum exhibition to be dedicated to the wide spectrum of contemporary Australian glass art. It features artwork from 21 Australian and 5 American contemporary glass artists.

The exhibition will showcase beautifully crafted glass sculptures, wall pieces, and vases that will be displayed at the museum until September 2014.

6)   Scooby-Doo Live! Musical Mysteries

Why you should go: The much-loved stage production, Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. Gang, is set to thrill audiences of all ages at Wichita’s Orpheum Theatre at 7 PM on Thursday, June 12.

Scooby, Shaggy and the rest of the gang will take center stage to help solve another epic mystery that involves trouble-making ghosts, wacky new characters, mystifying puzzles, and tons of Scooby Snacks!

The family-friendly musical will showcase a variety of big musical numbers, including the ever popular Scooby-Doo theme song, “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?,” along with other groovy tunes “We’re Mystery Inc” and “Round Every Corner.”
