The trip home to Kansas didn't go quite as well as Clint Bowyer had hoped. His 14th place finish in his words was...

"Miserable. Our whole weekend was miserable," Bowyer said. "We tried and tried and tried. We fought. It's just we missed the set up. It's just one of those deals."

Most years when you are racing for points, a 14th place finish is not bad, but this is not most years. Points leader Matt Kenseth and second place Jimmie Johnson are on a pace that is going to be pretty hard to catch without multiple wins.

Good news for Bowyer, this weekend NASCAR is headed to a track where he could get one such victory, the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Charlotte has never bee a great track for Bowyer, but he did win this chase race one season ago.

"That was one of the most unexpected, fun and crazy nights of my life," said Bowyer.  "We ran out of gas, walked to victory lane - which was pure chaos - went to the media center and had one of the more memorable press conferences I can remember."

With just six races left and 55 points to make up, Bowyer will however need more than just win races, he will need a little help, a little bad luck for the drivers in front of him. But with Talladega and Martinsville left to visit, it could happened. Those are unpredictable tracks, where Bowyer traditionally races well.
