Trinity Valley women won their third NJCAA tournament in a row, beating Hutchinson 65-45. This was Hutchinson’s first loss of the year.
“Our kids had a tremendous year, going 35-1,”head coach John Ontjes sais. “We came up short tonight , but I was just very proud of our group and how they competed all year long and the accomplishments that they had.”
The Lady Cardinals set the tone early, going on a 5-0 run. They kept the momentum in their favor, Adut Bulgak dominating down low and the team knocking down threes the early on in the game.
Trinity Valley kept Hutchinson from scoring from three point land in the first half and only allowing one in the second, keeping sharp shooter Jamie Patrick at bay.
“It just wasn’t her night,” Ontjes said. “I kept trying to encourage her to continue to shoot and be aggressive because I knew that was the only way we could get back in the ball game.”
Hutchinson tried to out of the early hole that Trinity Valley put them in, but were down double digits for most of the game. Kalani Purcell came off the bench and scored 20 points and grabbed 12 boards for the Blue Dragons.
The Cardinals had four players in double digits. Bulgak with 17, Deborah Meeks who had 13, azmine Spears had 11 and Sylvia Smith-Gatson who had 10.
