Wichita, Kan. -

The Wichita State Shockers earned win No. 20 with a 70-55 win over Illinois State on Wednesday. Although it is the best win streak for coach Gregg Marshall, it was Tekele Cotton's SportsCenter dunk that will leave a lasting impression on the Redbirds and the nation.

Redbird John Jones was the recipient of a massive one-handed slam by Tekele Cotton with a little under 6 minutes remaining. The Shocker bench erupted and the Redbird fans were in shock.  Subconsciously, he proved a point. The Shockers are on top of the MVC and for good reasons.

"I just got a step and one thing led to the next," Cotton said. "Ron [Baker] gave me a good pass and I just got a step and I went up and just tried to jump as high as I could."

Cotton admitted he tried not to watch it until the following morning but all of the text messages and tweets he received wouldn't allow that. He was forced to watch it a "handful of times" before finally seeing it on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays. The dunk was ranked at No. 2.

"I don't think I've had one like that one. I've had a few dunks, but not like that," he said.

But teammate Fred Van Vleet said he performs athletic feats like that in practice.

"We see him do dunks like that every day in practice," Van Vleet said. "So to see him get one in the game was pretty special. The dunks you guys get aren't close to anything he can do and I mess with him all the time that he doesn't bring it out all the time but he definitely caught one tonight."
