Wichita State used a seven-run fifth to defeat Evansville 13-3 in eight innings in the final game of a three-game series.
Tanner Kirk went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Garrett Bayliff went 2-for-5 with three RBI and Chase Simpson went 1-for-3 with four RBI and a grand slam.
Starter Sam Tewes went 6.1 innings and gave up three runs on seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
The Shockers took their first lead of the series in the fourth inning. With two outs, Tyler Baker singled through the right side and moved to second on a walk to Chase Simpson. Micah Green then doubled down the left field line to score Baker for a 1-0 lead.
WSU added to its lead in the fifth. Tanner Kirk led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Tanner Dearman. Dayne Parker singled to left field to drive in Kirk for a 2-0 lead and after a walk to Casey Gillaspie, Garrett Bayliff doubled to left-center to score both Parker and Gillaspie to put the Shocks in front 4-0. With two outs, Simpson walked and Green singled to load the bases. Cody Bobbit drew a bases loaded walk to scored Bayliff and Kirk doubled to left field to clear the bases and put WSU up 8-0.
The Aces got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Ryan McKibban singled and Shain Showers homered to left field to cut the lead to 8-2. Ryan Perry followed with a double and he scored on a double by Jake Mahon to make the score 8-3.
The Shockers added five more runs in the eighth. Dearman led off with a single and after a walk to Gillaspie, Bayliff singled to drive in Dearman for a 9-3 lead. Baker singled to load the bases and Simpson followed with a grand slam to put the Shocks in front 13-3.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., April 15 against Oral Roberts at 6:30 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
