A quartet of Kansas natives helped pace the Fort Hays State basketball teams in a home sweep of Nebraska Kearney.
In the men's game, Wilson native Jake Stoppel had 18 points and eight rebounds to lead the Tigers. Wichita native Craig Nicholson had a big second half and finished with 17 and he set a new FHSU single-season record for free-throws made at 178. Spearville native Carson Konrade added 10 points
FHSU lead by as many as 12 in the first half, but the Lopers cut the lead to five at the half. The Tigers used an 11-0 run early in the second half to give them a little breathing room and hit free throws down the stretch to make it a 78-72 final. James Flemming also had a double figure scoring night with 13.
In the women's game, Newton native Kate Lehman just missed out on a triple double with 26 points, 12 rebounds and nine blocked shots. The Lady Tigers provided far less drama, racing out to a 14-2 lead and that pretty much set the pace for the night.
Chelsea Mason added 13 points and Keriann Shaw pulled down 10 rebounds in the 81-53 victory.
