FHSU football knocks off Kearney for first winning season since '09

HAYS, Kansas (MIAA Media Relations) -

Fort Hays State scored 28 unanswered second half points as they picked up a win at home over Nebraska-Kearney 56-17. FHSU had 711 yards in the game holding UNK to just 266 as they finished 6-5 on the year. It's the Tigers first winning season since 2009 and continues the trend of increasing win totals under head coach Chris Brown.

For the Tigers Treveon Albert was 20 of 27 for 357 yards and five touchdowns. Andre Smith carried the ball 24 times for 210 yards and two scores as Ed Williams and Keaton Callins each caught two touchdowns.

On defense Alex Schmidtberger had ten tackles and picked off a pass as did Michael Jordan.

For the Lopers Romero Cotton rushed for 94 yards and scored a touchdown. Tyler McKeone was 19 of 25 for 163 yards and a touchdown. On defense Tyke Kozeal led the way with 13 tackles while Kellen Werner and Kenny Hill each made 10 stops.
