Sprint Cup Series drivers managed to make it 59 and ¾ laps without a caution. Then Jimmie Johnson ran out of gas coming to the checkered flag of the second Budweiser Duel at Daytona, causing a big wreck that sent Kansas native Clint Bowyer airborne.

“That was one of the wildest flips I’ve ever had,” said Bowyer. “I think we would have been just fine if I hadn’t hit the grass right here. “

Bowyer landed on his wheels and rolled across the start finish line in 10th place, giving him a 20th place starting spot for Sunday’s Daytona 500. He will have to start the race however in the back because he will have to drive a back up car after Thursday's wreck.

Denny Hamlin was out front when the melee broke loose, giving him the win in the second duel.

“Once that snowball starts to roll it’s hard to stop it and right now we’re just on a heck of a run,” said Hamlin who also won Saturday's Sprint Unlimited.

Heck of a run for Joe Gibbs racing as well. Hamlin’s teammate Matt Kenseth won a relatively uneventful Duel number one.

“The rest of the week I haven’t been very coordinated.  I felt bad walking in the garage everyday honestly,” said Kenseth. “Glad to get the win here tonight.  These guys really deserve it -- they worked hard on this thing.”

Eric McClure, Ryan Truex, Joe Nemecheck, Morgan Shepard and Michael McDowell are the five drivers that missed the field for Sunday’s 500.
