Junior guard Alex Harden has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Harden led all scorers in both of Wichita State’s wins over Northern Iowa and Drake on the week. Against Northern Iowa, Harden scored 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting, pulled down nine rebounds, handed out five assists and had four steals in a team-high 31 minutes as the Shockers defeated the Panthers, 80-47.
In the 88-55 win over the Bulldogs, the junior poured in 21 points, grabbed six rebounds and handed out eight assists. She shot 8-for-16 from the floor, including 3-for-4 from behind the arc as Wichita State moved its winning streak to 13 games and stayed perfect in Missouri Valley Conference play.
On the season, Harden leads the Shockers in scoring at 15.8 points a game. She also has handed out a team-best 86 assists and is shooting 11-for-23 (.478) from behind the three-point line.
Harden and the rest of the Shockers will now hit the road for two MVC games. They will take on Illinois State on Sat., Jan. 25 in Normal, Ill. at 4 p.m. and Indiana State on Mon., Jan. 27 in Terre Haute, Ind. at 7 p.m.
