The 67 car co-owned by Wichita business man Wink Hartman will have a pretty good view for the start of Saturday’s Firestone 600 at the Texas Motor Speedway. Driver Josef Newgarden will roll off second, his best start since his rookie season in 2012.

“I was happily surprised to be honest with you,” said Newgardern. “We worked mainly on race stuff this morning. We didn't go super conservative, we didn't go all the way to the edge.  But the car was just really fast.  I don't know if it's that it looks so good that it was fast.  It was really good, really balanced.  The team just did a great job.  I'm really pleased.”

The Sarah Fisher-Hartman Racing team is one of the smaller efforts in an Indy garage that includes mega teams like Andretti-Green, Penske and Ganassi. So starting the in front is big for this team.

Newgarden has been pretty good at qualifying this season, also getting into the fast nine at the Indy 500 last month. Now they just need to turn strong qualifying runs, into strong races.

“I didn't know how much speed we were going to have,” said Newgarden. “I was hoping we were going to be in the top 10.  That's honestly what I was hoping we would do.  It would have been good, relatively mid pack, close to the front.  If we have a good car in the race, we could kind of charge to the front.”

Will Power won the pole for Saturday’s race.
