Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department. Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.
These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

Friday - 9:17 am
A 33/m reported to police that three people were talking in the 300 block of N. Market when another person told them to “shut up or he would shut them up”. At that point, the man pulled up his shirt and revealed a handgun in his waistband. Police recovered the gun from the man’s work vehicle. All four were taken in for questioning. The man was expected to be arrested.
Stolen and pawned…
Friday - 12:53 pm
A 69/f says someone stole property belonging to her and someone else in the 1300 block of S. Tapestry. She says she allowed the person in their home for a party. They found a pawn slip from AOK Pawnshop with their property listed. Some of the property was returned to them, other property was placed on hold until further investigation.

Friday - 2:05 pm
A 39/f says four children were being abused by their mother. She says they were also exposed to their mother’s drugs and drug use. She asked police to check into it. Police took all four kids into protective custody. The address of the incident is not listed due to the nature of the situation.
This escalated quickly…
Friday - 3;09 pm
A 31/f says two people tried to get her to buy meat in the 500 block of S. Ridge. When she refused, one of them started yelling at her that it’s “illegal to smoke with a baby in the vehicle”. The person started taking pictures of her and her baby.
Trying to steal a ramp…
Friday - 3:50 pm
A 60/f says two people tried to steal her aluminum wheelchair ramp from her home in the 2100 block of S. Pattie. They didn’t succeed. There were no damages, no witnesses and no evidence to submit.

Friday - 4:30 pm
A 28/m who works at a business in the 3700 block of N. Woodlawn says he saw a woman stealing items from the store and hiding them in her purse. She then left the store. He followed her and asked her to stop. At first, she said “I don’t have anything”, but he continued following her. She then threw her purse down and said “There, you can have it!”...she took off in a car. All property was recovered.
Friday - 5:29 pm
A 30/m says someone embezzled some property from a store in the 500 block of N. Tyler by fraudulently returning unsold merchandise between January 1 and 9. The man was arrested. He was banned from all stores owned by the company (which was not listed in the report).
Friday - 6:53 pm
A 57/m says someone came to his door with a cap and vest from a utility company. He told the man he was going to lower their bill. They showed him their bill, but he didn’t have a business card. The man called the utility and asked for an employee ID. The man refused to give one and said “you just go ahead and keep your (utility name) service” (the utility’s name is not listed in the report).
Probably not actually Cox employees…
Friday - 11:32 pm
A 22/m called police and said two unknown men came to his home in the 4500 block of E. Central earlier in the day wearing normal clothes and wearing a “Cox” button. They told his babysitter they were there to hook up cable. He wanted to report the incident because he didn’t request any cable services and he thinks the two men just wanted to get inside his home.
Saturday - 2:31 am
A 33/f says she was working at a business in the 8500 block of W. 21st N. when she lost some money in the restroom. She says two people then posted on Twitter that they took some money from the restroom at the same location. She says she has screenshots of the money that was taken and she would like to prosecute.
Blind man robbed…
Saturday - 2:51 am
A 73/m says someone came and took his wallet out of his back jeans pocket in the 700 block of N. Market. The man says he then fell to the ground. He is legally blind and didn’t see who took the wallet. He was also locked out of his apartment for about an hour. He says his Kansas ID is gone, along with some other cards. He doesn’t know if he had cash in the wallet or not. The man’s son was also in the apartment, he didn’t know his father had gone out.
Sunday - 12:41 am
A 31/f says a woman bumped into her in the bathroom of a business in the 4700 block of W. Kellogg. She noticed a while later that some property was missing from her back pocket. She was unable to find the woman who bumped into her. The report does not state what was stolen.
