WICHITA, Kan. -

Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department.  Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.

These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

You can read all of the sheets by going here: WPD Media Reports (click on the "Media Reports" tab)

Copper theft…
8:55 am
A 31/m reports someone tearing around 3200 feet of wiring from inside of a site belonging to a business in the 6600 block of W. Kellogg.

Attempted burglary…
11:54 AM
A 31/m reports someone trying to break into a storage trailer that sits behind a business in the 2500 block of S. Seneca. They weren’t able to get into the trailer, but they damaged the chain and lock on the rear door.

Ding-Dong-Dash…
1:10 pm
A 50/f says two people rang her doorbell in the 2100 block of E. Shadybrook. She looked outside and didn’t see anyone, but saw two people in a car riding down her street. She told police this has been an ongoing issue with these particular people for the past three years. She says it stems from an incident involving her son, who doesn’t even live in Wichita anymore.

Not scammed…
1:29 pm
An 82/f says she received a phone call from someone who said he had a package for her. He wanted to deliver the package in person, then, when he delivered the package, she was supposed to give him money. She has no idea what the package is supposed to be and she has not ordered anything recently. She was concerned because the caller knew her address and phone number. She didn’t give out any money, but this is the second time someone has tried to scam her in recent years.

What a waste…
2:24 pm
A 70/m tells police he served a tenant with eviction papers in the middle of January. He says the tenant then left a steady stream of water in the bathtub causing the water bill to be higher than normal. The water department needed a case number, so he contacted police.

Burglarized…
5:29 pm
A 23/m says two people forced their way into his home by using a pry-tool on his back door. The two then stole some of his property, and his car. An eyewitness saw two people driving away in his car.

Attacked during car theft…
9:46 pm
A 25/f says someone was trying to break into her car in front of their home in the 3300 block of S. Gordon. Her husband confronted the crook, but was assaulted. The husband was taken to the hospital in “code yellow” condition (which means he had potentially serious injuries). A felony warrant was issued for the arrest of the thief.
