Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department. Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.
These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.
You can read all of the sheets by going here: WPD Media Reports (click on the "Media Reports" tab)
A 29/f says her live-in boyfriend threw a beer bottle at her car. The bottle dented the car and caused damage to the paint. The guy was arrested.
A 40/m says he woke up and found a tree stump in his front yard on fire and a threatening note outside his front door. Fire crews were called out. No word on who did it.
Money Order fiasco…
A 65/m, who manages an apartment complex, says someone (possibly an employee) took a money order out of the office and cashed it. He says the money order was handed to the employee, but it was not filled out. The employee admits receiving the money order, but says it was lost. The money order was then cashed. The manager received a copy of the money order from Western Union showing who it was made out to with a driver’s license number. The report does not state who the MO was made out to.
Seemed like a safe place…
A 62/m says someone stole some property he had hidden inside a box which was buried in the ground and covered with a piece of concrete at his home in the 5300 block of S. Seneca. He thinks his neighbor to the south is responsible for the theft.
Well, THAT was strange…
An 83/m says he and someone else (presumably his wife) were in their home in the 1400 block of E. Amsden - when someone came in through an unlocked front door, unannounced and uninvited. He says the man asked them if they were okay, he then went outside through the same door, went into the back yard and opened the garage door and an outside shed door. He then yelled to them and asked if anyone was hiding in the shed. The guy jumped a fence and headed north. No one was hurt, nothing was taken.
A 30/m received an email from someone asking him to cash two checks, purchase property from two different stores, then return the remaining money and gift cards to him. He was told to keep the stuff he bought. He tried to cash the checks, but the bank told him they were fake. The checks were submitted to police.
Storm door shot out…
A 28/f says someone shot out her glass storm door. She and four others were asleep in the home at the time. No one was hurt. No idea who did it. Police retrieved the bullet as evidence.
A 55/f says she put her dog outside at her home in the 14600 block of E. Sport of Kings. She went inside, but when she came back out, the dog was gone - along with the line that was attacked to a basketball hoop post. The dog is an orange and white spotted Brittany Spaniel who goes by the name “Trap”. The dog is 10 and is very friendly. She says she saw a strange car with two guys in it with two other dogs in the back seat.
Handicap chair lift stolen…
A 69/m says his grandson used his vehicle and the next day, his wheel chair lift that was in the vehicle was gone. The grandson says he has no idea where he was when the loss happened.
A 28/m reports someone passing a counterfeit 100 bill at a business in the 3200 block of N. Toben. The bill was turned in as evidence.
A 23/m says he found a guy to do repair work on his truck on a website. He says the guy not only didn’t do the repair work, he bought parts and then returned them to the store the next day - keeping the old parts on the truck. He says he gave the guy money to work on the truck. He’s tried to get in contact with him, but his efforts have been ignored.
Parking lot intruder…
A 51/m says someone has been breaking into cars in his business’s parking lot and that of a neighboring animal clinic in the 1100 block of S. Washington. He says he has video showing the guy entering cars and leaving the area on an older ten-speed bike. The report does not indicate whether anything was stolen.
