Wichita Police Crime Sheets: Wed, February 26

Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department. Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.
These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

A 41/f says she heard gunshots outside her home in the 1400 block of N. Hydraulic. Shell casings were found in the street in front of her home. Police searched the neighborhood, but didn’t find whoever was responsible. No damage reported. The shell casings were submitted as evidence.
A 27/m says someone got into his pickup, popped off the stereo faceplate and ransacked his truck. The faceplate and his sunglasses were left on the front seat. Nothing was taken, but the ignition was also damaged. The truck was parked in his driveway in the 200 block of N. Sheridan when it happened.
A 67/f says someone vandalized a trash dumpster in the 1200 block of N. Indiana. It was spray-painted with pink gang graffiti.
A 27/m says someone stole several metal drainage grates that belong to a business in the 8800 block of W. 13th N.
Pilfered at the bus stop…
A 42/f says she was waiting for a bus in the 500 block of N. Hillside. She was sitting next to a person and her purse was between them. She was not holding onto her purse at the time. When she got onto the bus, she realized her government-issued phone was missing from her purse.
Wallet lost at the park…
A 29/m says he was swinging on the park swings with his son the day before. Apparently his wallet fell out of his pocket, but didn’t realize that it was missing until later in the evening. He checked the area, but the wallet and its contents were long-gone. Police sent him an identity theft packet.
Stolen at the hospital…
A 67/f says someone stole property from her bedside table at a hospital in the 3600 block of E. Harry. She says it likely happened while she was asleep. Hospital security asked her to file a report with police.
Pot at school…
A 38/m who works at a school in the 300 block of N. Oliver (Robinson Middle School) reports finding two people with marijuana. One of them was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center for sale or possession with intent to sell marijuana. The other one could also be arrested. Police also talked with two parents.
A 47/f who works for a school in the 5300 block of N. Hillside (Heights) reports one person in possession of paraphernalia, marijuana and electronic cigarettes at school. She says the student was selling pot at school. The student was arrested.
An officer took a 17/m into protective custody and transported him to the Wichita Children’s Home after an investigation by the Department for Children & Families. DCF says the living conditions at home were unsanitary and unsafe.
A 19/f called police after receiving a call from someone claiming to be in Washington, DC. She says she was told that she had won some grant money and that she was supposed to send money via MoneyPak (Green Dot) to “eliminate limits”. She sent the money. The person contacted her again and said to send money to cover taxes. She said she didn’t have the money and spoke with several other people on the phone. She did eventually send money, but has not received anything from them. She says she sent money twice (report states $450, but does not state whether that was the total amount, or if she sent $450 twice).
A 47/m says his daughter told him that an unknown man in a car pulled into a driveway next to her and got out of the car while she was walking home from school in the 2600 block of N. Amidon. She says she’d never seen the car before, so she ran home.
An 18/f says someone struck her car with a cane leaving a dent. The incident happened in the 1900 block of W. 21st N.
A 57/m says he went into a laundry room at a facility in the 200 block of W. Lincoln and noticed some of the coin-operated mechanisms on the washers and dryers appeared to be tampered with. No word on whether anything was taken.
A 69/m says a woman stole property from his motel room while he was in the shower in the 6300 block of W. Kellogg. Police say the woman is a previously documented internet escort. She had permission to be in the motel room.
Caught in the act…
A 30/f says she saw someone inside her car, which was parked in the 600 block of N. West Street. The guy took off. She got in the car and noticed her ignition was damaged and a screwdriver was left behind.
