Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department.  Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets. 

These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

TSA Arrest…
6:23 am
An airport officer contacted a person at the airport security checkpoint at Mid Continent Airport with a handgun and two bullets. The man was arrested. The gun and both bullets were submitted as evidence.

Stolen while left running…
7:14 am
A 24/f says her Chevy Equinox was stolen from in front of her home in the 700 block of N. Mt. Carmel. She says the vehicle was left running with the keys inside.

Good guy…
8:42 am
An 81/m says he found a black backpack containing some college papers and books and a running shoe outside his home in the 6400 block of E. 15th Street. He took it to a home where some college students live, thinking it belonged to them...which it did. He called police because he thought it may have been connected with a recent robbery at a neighbor’s house.

Connected robberies…
9:08 am
An 80/m reported a burglary in his garage in the 1900 block of W. Anita. He said the thieves got in through the open overhead door and stole property. The crime was witnessed by a neighbor. Police were able to catch up with the two thieves and return the man’s property. Police also recovered property stolen from what appears to be at least two other cases.

Gas line cut…
9:16 am
A 39/m say someone cut the fuel line to his car, which belongs to someone else (perhaps his company), and stealing gas in the 500 block of S. Washington. He has no idea who did it.

Stolen wheels…
9:18 am
A 46/m says someone took all four wheels and tires from a vehicle in the lot of a business in the 8200 block of W. Kellogg. The person also broke one of the windows. No idea who did it.

Good gal...
10:52 am
A 57/f reports finding a tan KU wallet - along with debit cards, cash, a drivers license and other miscellaneous cards. She turned it in to police.

Trash digger…
11:16 am
A 61/f says she heard and saw someone she didn’t know walking around her house and rifling through her trash bins. She says the guy didn’t say anything...but she wanted to report it just in case.

Trash dumper…
11:25 am
A 62/m says someone dumped construction debris in a parking lot in the 1400 block of S. Mosely. The garbage included chain link fence, wood poles, tree limbs, large boards with nails and rebar.

Not-so-happy birthday…
12:43 pm
A 35/f says she was having a family birthday party at her home in the 2900 block of E. 9th N. After the party, she noticed she was missing a tablet computer. No idea who took it.

Stealing purses…evading police…
1:50 pm
A 45/f says she saw some people stealing purses from a store in the 7700 block of E. Kellogg. Police tried to stop them, but they led officers on a car chase. Once they were stopped, all five were found in possession of stolen merchandise. All five were arrested for theft. The driver was also booked on evade and elude and multiple traffic charges. The property was recovered and returned to the store. Note: It appears the thieves were shoplifting purses from the store, not grabbing purses from other customers.

1:52 pm
A 43/f says someone burglarized her home and stole property in the 2000 block of S. Santa Fe. The intruders forced their way in through a window. Police have not found the thief.

Suspicious guys…
1: 53 pm
A 93/f says two guys came to her home the night before last and opened her gate and looked around her property in the 1100 block of W. 14th N.. They told her they would come back and check her windows the next day. She decided to go to a friend’s house because she was concerned for her safety.

Restaurant theft…
2:07 pm
A 20/f says someone came into a restaurant in the 2500 block of S. Seneca and headed toward the bathroom. The door to the kitchen area and the person reached in and grabbed someone’s property (perhaps from a coat rack) and took it to the bathroom. The thief took a wallet and left the rest of the property in the bathroom before leaving on foot. There is surveillance footage available.

Stolen during the big game…
2:25 pm
A 60/f says someone stole 60 Lortabs from her home in the 200 block of N. Rock. She says around 20 people were in her home watching football at the time of the theft, but doesn’t know who did it.

4:22 pm
A 49/f says someone she didn’t know pulled up to her home in the 1300 block of W. Greenfield. The guy told the children to smile and took their pictures as well as a picture of the house. He then took off. No one was hurt, but she reported it as suspicious activity.

Stolen dog…
4:39 pm
A 34/f says someone came into her fenced yard in the 2600 block of S. West and took her chihuahua. The dog is 3/f named “Sunshine” and is tan with hazel eyes...around 6.5 lbs. She has a white cross-shaped patch on her chest and lifts her rear right leg when she walks.
