Wichita Police Crime Sheets: Thurs. - March 6
Updated On: Mar 06 2014 10:08:28 AM CST
Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department. Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.
These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.
You can read all of the sheets by going here: WPD Media Reports (click on the "Media Reports" tab)
A 31/f says an acquaintance came to her motel with another person and a child. The man asked her if she could watch the child while they went to appointments. She agreed to watch the child, but have not heard from the man or the other person since. She texted him several times, but hasn’t heard back. The child was taken to the Wichita Children’s Home.
A 21/m called police to report a co-worker driving his vehicle recklessly and carelessly through the parking lot belonging to their employer in the 3000 block of S. West. He says the guy has been doing it for a while and almost hit him.
A woman called police saying that someone called her 89-year-old grandmother claiming to be her. According to the caller, the granddaughter was in jail in Mexico City and needed her to send cash to get her out of jail. She was told that if she didn’t send any money, her granddaughter would spend four to six weeks in jail. She didn’t send any money. She called her daughter to confirm that her granddaughter was okay. The mother sent the granddaughter over to her house. The granddaughter then helped file the police report. (sorry, this is a bit confusing, but the most important thing is that the grandmother didn’t fall for the scam.)
You are NOT coming in here...
A 44/f says a man was beating on her door wanting to come inside. He was naked with his genitals exposed. The man was arrested for indecent exposure. The report does not state whether the woman knew the man. Also, due to the nature of the case, the address is not listed.
A 57/f says someone threw a bottle of soda at her car in the 1300 block of N. Woodland. It caused damage to her car...and got soda all over it. There weren’t any witnesses.
Mail (obviously) stolen…
A 60/m says someone stole mail from his mailbox in the 1400 block of N. Coachhouse. He says he isn’t sure exactly what was taken, but he knows the mail was stolen because he just returned from being out of town for a week and there was no mail in his mailbox.
Don’t forget your change…
A 51/f says she forgot to remove her cash from the register at a grocery store in the 4700 block of S. Broadway. The store has video of a person who picked up her cash. That video is expected to be turned over to police.
A 22/m says a man (who he did not know) acted like he was going to throw a large clay pot at him. The man also broke the front glass door and tried to get into his apartment in the 500 block of N. Topeka. Nothing was taken and no one was hurt.
A 41/m says someone was following him while driving near K-96 and Rock. He says the other car flashed blue and white lights on his dashboard. That made him think that the guy was a cop, so he pulled over. The other driver pulled up beside him and rolled down his window, but didn’t cause any confrontation. No one was hurt, no one else saw it happen, and there’s no evidence.
Police have told us in the past that officers have always have flashing BLUE and RED lights. If you have any question about someone trying to pull you over, you can call 911 from your cell phone.
