Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department.  Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets. 

These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

4:28 am
A 19/f says someone came into a store in the 1600 block of S. Webb and told her to give him all of the money in the register. She gave him the money in a plastic bag and he left on foot. The woman was not hurt, she says he didn’t show or indicate any weapons.

 It was 4  degrees outside.. .windchill -16...
9:10 am
An officer found a 4-year-old girl walking in the extreme cold alone along a busy street wearing only pajamas and tennis shoes. The officer found two of her siblings at home with their mother in poor living conditions. The girl also said she was struck by her parents and had redness on her bottom. Police took all three children into protective custody and referred the case to the Exploited and Missing Child Unit. The address is not listed because of the nature of the incident.

Pretty sure it’s a scam…
9:52 am
A 70/f says she received a letter stating that she’d won $250,000 on a consumer sweepstakes. The letter included a check that she was supposed to cash for the “processing fees”. The letter instructed her to cash or deposit the check, send some of them the money and keep the rest. After she mailed the payment, she’d receive the full reward. She didn’t do any of that because she thought it was a scam.

10:30 am
A 30/f says she woke up at around 4:15 in the morning in the 8700 block of W. University and saw flashing lights and heard clicking. She thought someone was taking pictures around her home. When she got up later, she found small prints near the windows that looked like human prints as if they were on tip-toes, or maybe animal prints.

And, they used HER hose…
2:34 pm
A 35/f says someone siphoned gas out of her two cars at her home in the 600 block of E. Wassall. She says whoever did it cut up her yellow garden hose to siphon the gas. The vehicles were not damaged.

Mysterious prints…
3:30 pm
A 70/f says she found footprints in the snow on her porch in the direction not normally taken by her mail carrier. She says there was no mail in her mailbox and worries someone stole her mail.

Thwarted shoplifter…
3:40 pm
An employee at a business in the 6900 block of W. Kellogg says someone came in and loaded a shopping cart with clothing, then tried to leave the store without paying. When approached, she left the property, got in her car and took off. She also left behind some of her personal property.

More footprints…
9:09 pm
A 48/f says she found footprints in the snow that came from the street, up to her front porch, then around to the back of her house, on her back porch, then to her detached garage. She says no one broke in and nothing was stolen, but she wanted some extra patrolling just in case.
