Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department. Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.
These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

Friday - 8:50 am
A 32/f in the 600 block of N. Volutsia says an out-of-state cable company withdrew money from her savings account. She says she didn’t authorize that transaction.
Trailer & tools stolen…
Friday - 9 am
A 50/m says someone forced open a gate and stole a trailer with some property on it in the 2400 block of N. Maize Road. The thieves also forced open a locked storage building and stole some tools. There were tire tracks at the scene, but no fingerprints and no witnesses.
School employee attacked…
Friday - 9:50 am
A 36/f employee at a school in the 1200 block of E. Galena (Greiffenstein Alternative Elementary School) says a student punched her twice in the stomach. In the process, a laptop belonging to the school district was damaged. The youngster was arrested on battery and criminal damage to property charges.
Friday - 11:18 am
A 21/m says he got a phone call from someone asking if anyone in his family drove an SUV. He said that his wife drives an SUV. The caller then said that his brother, who is a gang member, found his wife in an accident, pointed a gun at her, kidnapped her and took her cell phone. The man says he freaked out and the caller hung up. The man called his wife, who was perfectly fine. He called police to have the call documented just in case.
Reeking of pot…
Friday - 11:51 am
A staff member at a school in the 1500 block of N. Rochester (Wichita North) says a student reeked of marijuana. The staff member took the student to the office. His backpack was searched and staff found a glass jar of marijuana. That pot was submitted to patrol north as evidence. The student was suspended for ten days pending a drug assessment.
Not falling for it…
Friday - 1:58 pm
A 65/m says he got a phone call from someone telling him that he owes money for an electric bill. The caller wanted him to go to the store and pick up a pre-paid debit card to make the payment. The guy didn’t do it...instead, he called the cops.
Friday - 4:45 pm
A 25/f says she went to meet someone to sell her cell phone to in the 400 block of N. Hillside. She says, during the exchange, the “buyer” took the phone from her and left on foot. That person then got into a car driven by someone else. An eyewitness tried to chase the thief on foot, but couldn’t catch up with him.
Friday - 5:30 pm
A woman says her one-year-old son was injured after receiving a laceration from scissors. An officer was called to the scene (the addresses are not listed on cases like this). After investigation, three children - including the 1/m - were taken into protective custody. The report does not provide any more details about what happened.
Friday - 7:02 pm
An officer reports a woman leaving her five children in the care of someone else (that person’s identity or relationship with the children is not specified) as she planned to leave the state. The person gave the children to their grandfather. The mother wanted the grandfather to give them back to the first person. All five were taken into police protective custody, then left in the care of their grandfather.
Green Dot Card scam…
Friday - 8:40 pm
A 31/f says a woman called her and told her she was eligible for a free grant for being a single mother. She was then instructed to get a Green Dot Card and put some money on it… then the grant would be loaded on it for her to use. She got the card and loaded the money, but the caller said the money was not there. When the woman called the company (not specified, but presumably Green Dot), she was told the money had been taken off the card. No word on how much money she lost.
Stranger…now behind bars...
Friday - 11:16 pm
A 30/f says a stranger grabbed her on the butt and attempted to drag her into a dark area in the 1100 block of E. Pawnee. She screamed and the guy took off...he got into a car and left the scene. Police did catch up with him. He was arrested on one count of Aggravated Sexual Battery.
Friday - 11:26 pm
A 74/m in the 3900 block of W. Pawnee says a man came into a business and said “this is a stickup”. The incident was witnessed by someone else, too. The guy didn’t get away with anything...he took off in a car. Police have not found him.
Left it hanging…
Saturday - 4:09 pm
A 30/f says she left her purse hanging in the restroom of a business in the 7700 block of E. Kellogg. When she returned, it was gone. While she was telling security about it, her purse was recovered, but some of her property was missing. The report lists the loss at more than $1000.
Saturday - 11:53 pm
A 27/m in the 8300 block of E. Brentmoor called police to report three incidents. He says in one incident, three people took pumpkins from his front porch. He has surveillance video of the incident - but you can only make out dark shapes. In the second incident, the people threw candy on his porch...but the video only shows dark shapes. In the third incident, they threw candy again. He says there were packages on his porch during the latest incident, but they were not tampered with. The only thing he saw on surveillance in that incident was a dark pickup the prankters were driving.
Dine & dash...and drugs, too…
Sunday - 11:49 pm
An employee at a facility in the 3600 block of E. Harry (Via Christi St Joseph) says a man ate food from the cafeteria - but then wasn’t able to pay for it. Police caught up with him and found he was in possession of drug paraphernalia. The guy was arrested for larceny of services, trespassing and drug charges.
