Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department. Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.
These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

A 29/f says a customer came to a window arguing about a food order in the 1100 block of N. Broadway while someone else reached through another window and grabbed cash from the cash register. A third person who was in the same car stayed behind because he’d ordered and paid for food while the other two left on foot.
Brick through the window…
A 53/m says someone threw a large piece of brick through the passenger side front door window of his car in the 300 block of N. Racehorse. He told police that a neighbor’s daughter was driving really fast in circles around the area about a week ago. He called her parents to speak about it since she doesn’t have a license to drive in the first place. He thinks the brick incident may be retaliation for that.
A 22/m says some things were stolen out of a pickup in the 6100 block of S. Lulu. The rear window was left open, but the truck was not damaged. He says someone also poured baby powder all over another car. He thinks some neighborhood kids were involved in the incident.
Threatening car buyer…
A 50/f says she’s being stalked by a man who bought a car from her. She says he keeps calling and texting demanding his money back. He’s made statements about knowing where she lives and what kind of animal she has and what kinds of vehicles are parked at her place. She sent screenshots of the messages to police.
A 31/m says someone is dumping items by a trash can belonging to his business in the 200 block of E. 47th S. He says this has been going on for a while and this time there is a mattress, five to six couches and other things.
A 51/f says some of her personal checks have been cashed at a business by someone. She says the man typed his name in another type of font and put drivers license numbers on the front of the checks before he cashed them. The business did not require any ID.
A 45/m says he mailed a check to a someone, but it never arrived. He checked his bank account and found that someone altered the check and cashed it.
A 46/f says her neighbor who lives behind her in the 2500 block of N. Fenner has been blowing his trash into her backyard by hanging his blower nozzle over a fence. She says this is the fourth time it’s happened in the past month and it happened last fall, too.
A 37/f says someone shot a BB gun at her home in the 700 block of S. Greenwood. She says the shot left a hole in her new siding and there is orange residue around it. She would like to press charges.
It looks like someone’s been sleeping in my bed…
A 22/m says someone broke into a home in the 3000 block of W. University by breaking a basement window. He says his bed was disheveled like someone had been in it. A lighter and a woman’s bracelet were left behind.
Women’s room vandal…
A 20/m says a man was wandering around a business in the 2000 block of N. Amidon, then went into the women’s restroom. Turns out, the room was vandalized. The man was arrested for destruction to property and for using the wrong restroom.
Shot fired at a hotel...
A 50/m says he heard a disturbance in another room at the hotel where he was staying in the 6700 block of E. Kellogg. He then heard a single gunshot and saw the people in the room leave in a car. Police found a man in the room with bruises to his head that showed the imprint of a shoe. He didn’t need medical attention. He was not able to give many details on what happened because he lost consciousness, but he did say some of his property was missing. The bullet that was fired during the incident went through the floor into someone else’s room.
A 31/f says someone took packaged dirt from her garden in the 3000 block of S. Valley Forge. The person opened the packages and threw it all around the garden, making a mess. She says the person also took some of the dirt and rocks from her garden and put them on her car (though it was not damaged). She says this has happened before and she thinks the same person is responsible.
A 75/m who works for a car wash in the 10800 block of W. Kellogg says four locks were cut from coin boxes at the business and the coins were stolen. The thief used a torch to get through the locks.
A 42/m who works for a business in the 3200 block of S. Broadway says someone tried to use a plasma cutter to open the coin operated machines. They were not able to get any money, though.
Handicap ramp stolen…
Someone called police from the 3200 block of S. Seneca to report that someone had stolen the railing and several wooden planks from a wheelchair ramp at a neighbor’s house. The house is in the process of being sold. Police could not get a hold of the owner.
Playing with a lighter…
Someone in the 900 block of W. 29th S. reports waking up and finding a 5-year-old boy’s arm on fire. It was later learned the boy was playing with a lighter. The boy was taken to the hospital for treatment (the report does not state how bad his injuries were). Pictures and the boy’s clothing were submitted as evidence.
Someone called police and said someone (a parent, possibly, though it is not stated) was endangering a four-year-old girl because of their living conditions. The caller also stated the girl was left home alone for several hours. Police checked into it, the person was arrested and the girl was taken into protective custody.
A 49/m says he found a dead dog in a basket that was filled with other miscellaneous property in the 7900 block of W. 21st N. That property was turned over to police.
