Wichita Police Crime Sheets: Monday, April 7

Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department. Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.
These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

A 60/f says she woke up at around 6:50 in the morning and found her back door (sliding glass) was open at her home in the 400 block of N. Peterson. Nothing was taken and there was no damage.
Vending machines robbed…
A 49/m who works for a company in the 4000 block of E. 31st S. says someone broke into the business, drilled out the locks on three vending machines and stole all of the money inside them.
The same person reports similar incidents in the 2600 block of W. May, 2500 S. West and 3900 W. 29th S.
He believes the thief is a former employee.
High Blood Pressure…
A 56/f who works for a clinic in the 3800 block of W. Bounous reports having a verbal confrontation with a patient after he was advised by his doctor about his blood pressure. She says the man became irate and threatened medical staff. The man left, but returned and someone had to get between him and one of the employees.
A 28/f says she let her puppy out the front door of her home in the 1000 block of N. Estelle. She says neighbor children were playing with the dog. She went in for a few minutes, but when she came back, the puppy was gone. She was told someone was walking by, grabbed the dog and ran off.
Probably not the IRS…
A 25/f says she received three phone calls from different people telling her she is being sought out by the IRS. All three had heavy accents and she could not understand them very well. She didn’t give out any personal information and didn’t send any money. During the third call, the caller called her a “Jackass” and hung up on her after she told him she was going to call the IRS to find out what was going on. She says all three callers used foul language when she called them back.
Daddy won’t wake up…
A 3-year-old boy called 911 saying his daddy would not wake up. When police went to the home, they found the boy and two other children roaming the house. There were open bottles of alcohol, knives and cigarette butts strewn about. The man was asleep at the time and had to be awakened by emergency personnel. Another parent came to the house and took custody of the children. They were not hurt. The case remains under investigation.
Mail and dog food…
A 60/m says he believes someone is messing with his mail in the 1200 block of N. Wabash. He says the person takes the mail and most of the time, they bring it back. But, he has had to double-pay some of his bills (indicating the first payment didn’t arrive). He thinks someone is also taking his dog’s food when he sets it out. He thinks it might be a friend of his neighbor’s.
A 38/f says she came out of the Dillon’s store in the 1900 block of W. 21st and seeing two people siphoning gas out of her car. She says they almost ran over her as they were driving away.
A 50/f who works for a business in the 3700 block of N. Rock says four people were in the business cussing and saying they would just take what they wanted from the store. They also threatened to rob the store later. Other customers were in the store at the time of the threats.
A 60/f says she came to work in the 1600 block of S. Broadway and found the front glass door broken out. Surveillance video shows someone throwing a someone throwing a rock through the door and coming in with a large black trash can and possibly a hammer. The thief loaded up on cigarettes and took off. The woman says the man fits the description from a similar case.
Three men, who were all at the Y in the 400 block of N. Market say someone stole various items from their lockers. Those lockers were locked at the time and the guys say the locks were relocked and undamaged. Some of their property was recovered.
A 32/m reports his dog biting his daughter (her age is not listed) in the face. The dog was surrendered to animal control The girl was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Taking the wheel…
A 40/m says he believes someone loosened the nuts and bolts on one of the rear wheels on his car. The wheel came off while he was driving in the 1700 block of N. Woodland.
A 29/m says his neighbor approached him in his front yard regarding an argument they’d had a few days before. He says the guy displayed a handgun in his waistband and threatened him and his entire family. Police couldn’t pick the guy up because the man didn’t have his name.
A 50/f reports someone entered a locked area of a business in the 1800 block of S. Bluff. That person then removed the cover off of the underground tanks and siphoned gas out. The thief pushed up the surveillance cameras, so they did not get a description.
Half-dog, half puppy?
A 29/f reports receiving phone calls from two people that are disturbing her peace. She says they asked if she was “Half-dog/Half puppy” and “I know who you are and where you live”. She says they called another phone, but he did not answer.
Mattress set on fire…
A 24/m says his brother set a mattress on fire at his home in the 3800 block of E. 13th N after an argument. Three others were in the house at the time. They were not hurt. He says his brother also went around the house breaking windows and damaging the furniture and walls. He was arrested on several charges.
