Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department. Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.
These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.
You can read all of the sheets by going here: WPD Media Reports (click on the "Media Reports" tab)
Gambling machine robbed…
A 26/m says two people were playing video gambling machines inside a business in the 700 block of N. Ridge. He says he went outside to take out the trash...when he came back in, one of the players was using a pry tool to try to force open the machines. The other guy ran out of the store and got into a car and both of them took off. No word on how much money was taken.
A 71/f in the 5600 block of E. 21st N. says she found a black duffel bag in her yard. That bag contained two pillows, a blanket and some toiletries. Those items were turned in to police.
Upset over flag…
A 44/f says someone became irate when she refused to fly the flag at half-staff at a facility in the 300 block of S. Tyler. The man was given a No Trespass order.
Quite a donation…
A woman who works for a charity reports finding a sword, black body armor, a black BB pistol, a 20,000 volt stun gun with case, a black revolver holster, a corn knife, belt with nine fake bullets, a yellow dagger, a belt with 308 caliber blanks and miscellaneous 20 and 12 gauge shotgun shells in a donation bin in the 5000 block of S. Broadway. Those items were turned in to police for destruction.
An officer, while working another case involving someone who died in the 7600 block of E. 21st Street N., accidentally stuck his right pinky with a syringe containing an unknown liquid. The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.
A 25/m man set a box of bibles on fire because he was upset with staff at a facility in the 2800 block of N. Hillside (believe this is the Union Rescue Mission). No one was hurt. A felony arson pickup was issued for the man who started the fire.
A 39/f who works at a pharmacy in the 1600 block of S. Webb says someone came into the business and handed a staff member a note indicating they had a weapon and demanded controlled medications. The employee provided the drugs and the person left on foot. Police are still looking for that person.
A 27/m says someone didn’t pay for repair services on his vehicle. The guy tried to pay with a card, but it was declined. The mechanic told him he could pay the amount owed a different way, but he couldn’t release the car until the bill was paid. The guy told him “do whatever you think is right” - then ran to his car and took off.
Trespass and striking an officer…
An officer reports seeing a man in his car in the 400 block of S. Webb - against a no trespassing order. The guy refused to get out of his car at first, and when he did, he punched the officer four times in the elbow. The officer was not hurt, he used a taser to subdue the man - who was taken into custody on several charges - including battery of a law enforcement officer.
