Wichita Police Crime Sheets: Friday - January 31

Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department. Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.
These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

A 60/f says someone altered and successfully cashed her check at a bank without her authorization. She submitted a copy of the check as evidence.
A 54/f says she came home from church in the 500 block of E. 53rd S. and found one of her dogs dead on the back deck. Her other dog was badly wounded from being mauled. The second dog was taken to the vet and had to be put down due to its injuries. She called 911. An officer told her the stray dogs responsible were found and one of them was dead. She says this happened to others in her area, as well.
Drilling for gas…
A 37/f says someone drilled a hole in the gas tank of her 2010 Ford F150. It happened in the 900 block of N. St. Francis. She has no idea who did it.
Might need that next week...
A 74/m says someone stole his snowblower from the bed of his pickup. It happened in the 200 block of S. Nevada.
Wallet lost...stolen…(mostly) returned…
An 83/f says she let her wallet on top of her car when she drove off in the 7800 block of W. Westlawn. The wallet was found at 21st and Maize and all items, except her cash, were returned to her. She said she needed a case number because someone used one of her credit cards at an ATM.
Shattered Red Box…
A 61/m reports someone smashing the screen on a movie rental box in the 1200 block of S. Rock Road. He says no one got into the box and nothing was stolen.
Warn your elderly family/friends that this is still happening…
An 80/m says he got a phone call from a guy claiming to be his grandson. He says the man was in jail in Oklahoma after wrecking his car. He needed money to get out of jail. The grandfather called his daughter, who said the young man was actually with her at the time (and NOT in Oklahoma). A second call came in from a “Mr. Garcia” who was representing the “grandson”. She didn’t provide any money or information.
Another phony check…
A 27/f who works for a business in the 13600 block of W. Maple reports someone opening an account with an altered check. She says the person made a small deposit, then got cash back.
A 55/m reports two guys cutting the lock off of a fuse box at a business in the 600 block of N. Broadway. The two then stole the commercial A/C unit. There is surveillance video.
Anyone missing a bike?
A 63/f says a bicycle was parked outside her bedroom window. It had been there for several days. She doesn’t know who it belongs to, but it was submitted to police as found property.
An 81/f called police after getting a phone call from someone claiming to be with the Microsoft Company. She says the caller wanted to sell her software that would help her computer run better. She gave the man her credit card info, but was told that they don’t accept her type of credit card and that they need her bank routing and account number. She provided that information as well. She then became suspicious and thought it could be a scam. She closed her accounts and called police. She did not suffer any loss.
Struck with a cane…
Someone called police to report an 8-year-old girl being struck with a metal cane as punishment, leaving visible bruises. Police contacted the girl who said there were several incidences where she and another person (presumably a sibling) were struck by the same person (the person’s identity or relationship to the girl was not listed). Police contacted the girl’s father, then took both children into protective custody.
Dude, where's my…
A 39/m says he went out for drinks with a co-worker. They met two women they did not know. The two men and one of the women went home in the co-worker’s car. The man who reported the case went into his home, leaving the co-worker and the woman in the car parked. He says he had the keys to the car...but now the car is gone. He contacted the co-worker who said the woman slept in the car. They were not able to provide any details on the women.
A 17/m, who works at a business in the 10200 block of W. 21st Street N. says someone came into the store with a handgun and ordered him to the floor. He took property from the teenager, then demanded money from the cash register. The teen complied. The man then took off. Police caught up with the crook and arrested him. The boy was checked out by medics and was not hurt.
Disorderly at the ER…
1:16 am (Friday)
A 58/m reports someone using profane language and “fighting words” at the hospital in the 3600 block of E. Harry. He says the conduct was causing alarm and disturbing patients in the ER waiting room. The man was arrested for trespassing.
