Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department.  Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets. 

These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

Gaming machines vandalized…
6:15 am
A 49/m reports someone breaking into a business in the 1100 block of N. Broadway. The crooks got in by breaking a gate latch and glass. Some gaming machines were damaged and the intruders made off with some property.

Coin machine stolen…
6:19 am
Not far from the above incident, someone stole a coin machine belonging to a business in the 500 block of E. 13th N. (a car wash). Parts of the machine were located and submitted as evidence.

Cash register stolen…
7:30 am
A 19/m says someone broke into his parents’ business in the 2300 block of N. Broadway. The intruder smashed a front window and stole a cash register with cash inside it. Police swabbed for prints and took photos at the scene.

Making people nervous…
11:07 am
A 48/f says someone keeps coming into her business in the 1200 block of S. Tyler and making everyone feel uncomfortable. She says the person has come in on more than two occasions. The person walks around acting suspicious, looking around her store and making suggestions to her on what she should add to the store.

Bad check…
11:28 am
A 41/m, who owns a business, says someone (possibly a former employee or a vendor) making a copy of a business check at using it at Hog Wild Pit BBQ. The bank notified the business that the check looked like it had been manufactured and the signature didn’t match any of the previous business checks he had signed. The check was not paid by the bank, so there was no loss to the man. (However, it can be assumed that Hog Wild suffered a loss for the amount of the check)

Power chair stolen…
12:11 pm
A 57/f says she went into a building in the 1300 block of E. Mt. Vernon to use the restroom. When she came out, here power chair was gone. She tried looking around the neighborhood to find it, but was unable to. No idea who would have taken it.

Dog ears…
1:00 pm
A 58/m says a man cut his dog’s ear with a pair of scissors in the 1400 block of E. 52nd S. Scissors and fur were submitted as evidence.

More checks…
2:31 pm
A 52/f reports her mail was stolen from a mailbox slot at Greenwich and Central. She says all three of the checks were altered and cashed. That money was supposed to pay bills.

Bank robbery…
3:47 pm
A 23/f says a man came into a bank in the 7300 block of W. 21st N. and handed her a note requesting money be put in a green reusable bag. He didn’t show or indicate that he had a weapon. He was brought into custody after a surveillance picture of him was seen on TV by a relative. The money was returned to the bank. The robber was taken into custody.

Rental property stripped…
5:07 pm
A 65/f says an former tenant stripped her property of 90% of the copper wiring, plates, boxes and other fixtures in the 3200 block of S. Handley. This happened either before or during the tenant’s eviction. The property has since been repaired.

Robbed at gunpoint...
6:19 pm
A 26/f says an unknown man robber her place of business in the 2500 block of S. Seneca at gunpoint. No witnesses or injuries. There was video surveillance of the incident.

No sale…
7:52 pm
A 46/m says he met with someone to see a car the guy was selling on Craigslist. The guy provided a title that had a stamped message on it, along with handwritten mileage and other items on it. The man asked the seller to provide ID to verify that he was the person who is named on the title. The seller said he didn’t have a driver’s license, but was driving anyway. The buyer said “no thanks” to the car and left the area. Since then, he’s received texts and phone calls from the seller threatening and cursing him.
