Tracy Coln says she just finished paying her Westar Energy bill for her new business when she got a call from an 800 number.

The person on the other end of the line told her he was with the recovery department of Westar – and she must pay her pat due balance immediately, and she had to pay using something called a "green dot card."

What alarmed her the most was the caller knew the exact amount she had just finished paying Westar.

She went to a Dillons, where she says a teller told her this was a scam. From there, she contacted police.

Tracy is the owner of the "Cow and Sow” deli on east Douglas. She says this type of scam can make things challenging for new business owners.

"Just opening up my new business - I've only been open 2 1/2 months so it's like every bit counts,” she said. “… So I was just thinking, what about these older people that think they're going to get something shut off or they'll give them a story like that they're going to go and do it?”

Tracy also spoke to Westar. It told her it was aware of this type of scam going around, and it was worried the caller had some of her account information.
