SUV hit by train in Reno County

Train hits SUV in Reno County
ARLINGTON, Kan. -

The driver of SUV hit by train at K-61 and Broadway in Hutchinson walked away from the accident. 

It happened around 10:15 a.m. Saturday.

Sheriff Randy Henderson said the train saw a vehicle on the tracks and hit its emergency brakes. It missed that car, but hit an SUV driving behind it.

Don Black, 77, of Cheney, was driving the SUV. He was talking with deputies on scene, but they decided to take him to the hospital to be checked out.

Train operators said they don't believe the train derailed, but believes two of the cars broke loose.

No one else was hurt.

The accident remains under investigation.
