Officials with the Kansas State Fair want your opinion on the possibility of changing the starting date of the fair.
They are considering the idea of moving it up one week to include Labor Day weekend. The fair would still run 10 days. General Manager Denny Stoecklein says it was an idea floated to them by Governor Sam Brownback to see if there's a benefit to moving the fair up one week. One concern they do have is that Labor Day weekend is traditionally a time when many families go to the lake.
They have enlisted the help of Jayhawk Consulting to put out a survey for opinions on the idea. The date of the 2014 fair would not be affected because many things are already set.
Attendance for this years fair was down about a half-percent compared to 2012. Stoecklein says they are pleased with those numbers considering the hot weather early on and the rain later in the week. 340,795 people attended the fair this year.
