Riverside Elementary can drive

It was supposed to be a small class project.

Students at Riverside Elementary School, 1001 N Porter Ave., organized a canned food drive. The original goal was to raise 600 cans.

Students more than doubled it, donating 1,674 to the Open Doors Methodist Church.

Mrs. Anderson's Kindergarten class raised the most cans by one class, more than 400, and got treat bags for the entire class.

Second grade classes, Mrs. Neas and Mrs. Ellis' classes, together raised the most cans grade-level wise. They received free custard from Freddy’s Frozen Custard and an ice cream party, courtesy of the Outdoor Classroom.

There are 284 students in the school.
