ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. -

Authorities in Arkansas City have put down a "sick-looking" coyote after finding the animal acting strangely.

Officers were called to investigate near 6th and Maple Sunday morning. They found a coyote that was salivating, walking in small circles and eating snow. The animal was salivating, had discharge coming from its eyes, and was incapable of keeping its head up.

Officers called the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks after observing the coyote for an hour. The officials agreed to destroy the animal for safety purposes. The coyote was put down in a humane manner, police said.

No one was hurt.

The animal was not sent for testing because there were not any incidents with humans, officials said.
