Shocker fans not worried about SI jinx

You know them as the Shockers but Sports Illustrated is calling them "The unbeaten monsters of the Midwest."
Wichita State's starting five are on this week's regional cover of the magazine, but some say that could be a bad thing for a winning team. In 2012, Collin Klein was on it for talk about the Heisman. At the time, the Wildcats were undefeated. In the very next game, Kansas State lost to Baylor.
But like the cover says, many fans are encouraging the world to go ahead and try to jinx them.
So far, through every basket, challenge, home and away game, Ron Baker has been right. All they do is win. "I'm just so excited for all the hype that WSU is getting and I think it's well deserved," said Wichita State Senior Kristyn Smith.
Shocker fans say there is no room for some silly Sports Illustrated jinx with this year's team. "There's going to be a lot of people who are going to be talking about, oh I bet the Shockers are going to go down tonight. But it's not going to happen. They'll be alright," said Freshman Tyler Schulz.
"We know this is real. This is a big deal. It's talked about in the sports world all the time, and we're just like you know what? We don't care," said WSU graduate teaching assistant Katie Coriell.
For those Wichita State fans, gracing the cover means nothing more than national respect. "If you're on the cover of Sports Illustrated that's just showing all the accomplishments you have done. 27 and 0 now, that's a really big accomplishment," said Schulz.
They say the Shockers aren't done yet. "We'll just see how it plays out in the end but I think they have a really good chance to go all the way," said Schulz.
"No matter what happens, we should all be proud because it's a great accomplishment of what they've gotten so far," said Smith. "I know I'm proud and my fellow students are going to be proud no matter what comes out of this."
They're hoping Wichita State will put the superstition to rest with a 28th consecutive win Wednesday night.
The cover features all five WSU starters (Left to right: Cleanthony Early, Tekele Cotton, Fred VanVleet, Ron Baker and Chadrack Lufile) and the phrase "GO AHEAD, TRY TO JINX US".
The magazine is in stores now.
