Salina police officer guilty of inattentive driving
A Salina police officer who struck the back of a pickup truck with his patrol car has been found guilty of inattentive driving.
Officer David K. Villanueva Sr., 52, was cited March 4 and pleaded no contest to the charge in muncipal court Thursday.
The Salina Journal reports Villanueva paid a $125 fine and $55 in court costs.
The officer suffered minor injuries in the Feb. 18 crash. He was northbound on Ohio and didn't see a pickup driven by Ray Winters, 17, according to Capt. Mike Sweeney of the Salina Police Department. Winters was stopped, waiting to turn left from Ohio onto Lewis.
The patrol car sustained front-end damage and was towed from the scene. The pickup still could be driven.
