Tuesday the prosecution gave its opening statement in a Salina murder trial.
Dane DeWeese has been charged with the murder of Kristin Tyler, who went missing last April. Her body was found weeks later near the I-70 and I-135 interchange in Saline County. He is one of three people who have been arrested in connection with the death.
Joel Heil, who has been charged with Tyler's murder, as well, is expected to testify.
Prosecutors say Heil told them that DeWeese couldn't find some of his money and drugs and thought that Tyler could have taken them. They also said that they lured Tyler into a car saying that they were going to make a drug deal.
Prosecutors say they drove out to the country, near where her body was found and Heil beat her with a chain. DeWeese also kicked her. They drug her body across the road and prosecutors say DeWeese shoved her face in mud and water with his shoe.
The prosecution also called a number of witnesses including Tyler's mother and sister.
