WICHITA, Kan. -

The Wichita Diocese has a new Bishop.   Msgr. Carl Kemme, who served at the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, was selected by Pope Francis.

He was appointed in Rome today at Noon by Pope Francis.   He will be ordained in Wichita on May 1.

"Bishops are essential to the life of the church, we all need a leader and they provide a lot of vision." Bishop-elect Kemme said, "Of course they do in collaboration with so many of the priest and the laiety, they can't do it all themselves. but it just connects us with the Holy Father."

Bishop-elect Kemme replaces Archbishop Michael Jackels, who was transferred to Iowa last April.
