Salina Crash

The driver of a truck has died after crashing into a tree in Salina.

It happened about 3:30 p.m. Friday at Broadway and Chicago.

Police Cpt. Mike Sweeney said the driver, 71-year-old Richard Smock, of Tescott, lost control of the truck and ran into a tree.

He was rushed to Salina Regional Health Center with life-threatening injuries.

The Salina Journal reports a medication condition may have played a role in the accident. Witnesses reported seeing Smock slumped over in the driver's seat shortly before the crash.
