Man identified in fatal accident near Valley Center

VALLEY CENTER, Kan. -

The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified the 49-year-old man involved in a fatal accident near Valley Center Saturday night as Joseph Crowder of Sedgwick County.

Crowder, 49, left the roadway for an unknown reason, striking a tree around 8:20 Saturday according to KHP.

The single-vehicle accident happened at the intersection of 101 St. North and Broadway.

Master Trooper Aaron McGuire with the Kansas Highway Patrol says Crowder was killed after driving off the road, hitting a tree and being ejected from the vehicle. He does not believe Crowder was wearing a seatbelt.

McGuire says when firefighters arrived at the scene they found Crowder in extremely critical condition outside of the vehicle. They performed life saving measures but, he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
