A Ness City man is recovering after an accidental shooting in a home.
Authorities responded to the scene in the 700 block of School St. around noon Tuesday. Sheriff Bryan Whipple, Ness County, said emergency crews arrived to find a 21-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was flown to a Hays hospital where he is listed in serious but stable condition.
Sheriff Whipple said the man was shot while in a home with five juveniles. A 16-year-old boy found the keys to the gun safe, and took out a 12-gage shotgun. The teen told investigators he "wanted to scare the other boys," didn't know the gun was loaded, and fired a shot. The bullet struck the victim in the chest/shoulder area.
No one else was hurt.
The case has been turned over to the Ness County attorney for review.
