WICHITA, Kan. -

Some call it the Southwest Effect. Travel agents in Wichita say since Southwest Airlines started flying out of Mid Continent Airport, other companies have dropped their fares to match the low-fare airline.

Southwest landed in Wichita around six months ago. Since then, passengers tell us they've seen more options and cheaper fares.

And the savings don't stop at the ticket price. One passenger tells us that while other airlines charge for checked bags, Southwest does not. In fact, Southwest allows up to two free bags per passenger.

Some passengers we spoke with say they used to drive to Oklahoma City or Kansas City to catch a Southwest Flight.

Travel agents say the fares in Wichita are currently lower than both of those cities as well as Tulsa.
