Man killed in officer-involved shooting in Oberlin

OBERLIN, Kan. -

An Oberlin man is dead after a shooting involving police and the Kansas Highway Patrol overnight.

According to the Oberlin Police Department, police were called to a home in the 700 block of East Maple Monday evening to investigate possible criminal activity. Officials on scene found a man who was armed, and making threats.

The man ran from police and KHP troopers who were assisting. Police say the suspect started firing shots at officers in the 700 block of E. Commercial.

Troopers returned fire, killing the suspect. The Oberlin Herald reports the man may be in his 20s, but no names have been released.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case, with help from the Oberlin Police Department, Decatur County Sheriff's Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The Trooper has been placed on administrative leave while the case is being investigated.
