COLBY, Kan. -

It takes a lot of community effort to make Colby one of a kind. Local businesses do their best keep the money in town. One Colby woman is doing her part by planting beauty around the northwest Kansas town.

Among other things, Lana Johnson is a mother, a grandmother and an entrepreneur. She turns scrap metal into art, helping to add her sparkle to the local economy.

"I don't do two things the same," Johnson said. "So you feel like you have a piece of art when I'm done."

She can make almost anything from metal, but flowers are her favorite. You can find her work scattered around Colby. She's made the palm trees that stand at the entrance of the pool and the welcome sign at the walking trail.

"It's really fulfilling." Johnson said. "I'm really appreciative of our city for doing that."
