Firefighter injured battling wildfire in Lyon County

EMPORIA, Kan. -

A Reading, Kansas, firefighter was injured fighting a grass fire that reignited from the night before in Lyon County.

Crews responded to road 200 and road Y where a grass fire being driven by 30 mile per hour wind gusts to the north and east Thursday afternoon.

The fire was contained by 9 o'clock that night, after an estimated 5000 acres of grass had been consumed by flames. A fire cause remains under investigation.

Flames also left its mark with a Reading Fire truck damaged and one hay barn lost in the fire. The firefighter was treated for minor burns and treated at the scene.
