Fire investigator believes arson cases related
An investigator with the Salina Fire Department believes that the apartment fires that occurred on Monday and Wednesday are both linked cases of aggravated arson.
Both apartments are owned by the same man, Mark Booher. There were no injuries reported in either fire.
Investigator Troy Long said the department’s trained dog indicated an accelerant had been used in Monday night’s fire, which caused around $3,000 damage at 308 S. Fourth in Salina.
Christmas night, fire investigators discovered two cardboard boxes had been set on fire in a hallway of the apartments at 209 E. Mulberry. A person in the apartment was able to extinguish the fire, which caused $300 in damages, before firefighters arrived.
Long said he believes an accelerant was also used in the Christmas fire.
