SALINA, Kan. -

Update: A man who suffered burns in a house fire in Salina Wednesday has died.  Salina's Fire Chief says 49-year-old Darrell Pattillo died from his injuries.

A dog died and a man is in critical condition after a garage caught fire and spread to two homes in Salina.

Crews were called to the scene around 11 a.m. They arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from a garage, that spread to two homes in the 100 block of Florida Avenue.

Investigators say the fire started with a freezer in the garage that was plugged in to an extension cord.

A man was taken to the Salina Regional Health Center. He was later transported to Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita by helicopter. There were two dogs in the home when the fire broke out - one made it out, the other died.

Investigators do not know how much damage was caused by the fire, but say the garage was destroyed and the living spaced sustained significant fire damage.
