The founder of Doonan Truck and Equipment in Great Bend died on Sunday, April 27. Wendell Doonan, 91, started the company on Highway 281 in 1947 in a small building just north of Great Bend.

Doonan was a lifetime Great Bend resident. The company he founded began as an Oliver farm equipment dealership. In 1950 a service station was added and four years later a GMC Truck franchise was secured.

The Doonan Trailer facility was added in 1974 where Doonan's own designs of grain trailers, oilfield beds, pressure tanks, and flatbed and drop-deck trailers were manufactured.

Doonan was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lions Club, A. F. & A. M. Masonic Lodge #15, and Isis Shrine, all of Great Bend; and Ascension Lutheran Church and ROMEOs at Ascension Lutheran Church in Paradise Valley, Ariz.
