MANHATTAN, Kan. -

The announcement came out Monday night that quarterback Daniel Sams will transfer from Kansas State University.

Now, the Athletics Director at the university, John Currie has announced that Sams has been granted a conditional release from his scholarship by the university.

"Daniel requested to be able to continue his playing career at an FCS institution so that he could be closer to some of his aging family members," Currie said in a press release sent out Tuesday. "We appreciate his contributions and wish him the best.

Sams' was splitting time with Jake Waters under center in 2013 but opted to learn wide receiver during the spring season.

He had just completed his redshirt sophomore season for the Wildcats, and has two years of eligibility left.

With the release, Sams will not be eligible to both compete and receive financial aid upon enrollment at an FCS institution.
