Copper thieves have targeted a center that provides early education to low-income families.

Police said someone stole copper from an air conditioning unit from the Top Learning Learning Center, 2330 Opportunity Dr., early Wednesday morning.

The thieves took copper from two air conditioning units on the roof that had just been replaced after storms damaged the units over the summer.

The cost of the copper is about $500, but it will cost about $25,000 to replace the units.

The center does have insurance.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call police.
