WICHITA, Kan. -

Wichita police are looking for two people wanted in connection with a copper theft case. It happened early Thursday morning in the 5200 block of N. Arkansas.

According to police, two people stole around 160 feet of copper wire from an AT&T construction site. An alarm system alerted AT&T that someone was tampering with the materials.

Police searched the neighborhood and found 109 feet of the stolen cable at a home in the 800 block of W. 51st Street N.

Police contacted a neighbor who says he saw at least two people cutting the wiring and trying to steal it. He says the neighbor approached them and they left the area in a Chevy truck.

That theft caused several thousand dollars worth of damage, and disrupted phone and other utility services to customers in that area.

Police say construction sites are "opportune targets" for copper thieves.
