Changes could be coming to property taxes in Sedgwick County, commissioners approve a new proposal.

Karl Peterjohn, District 3, has proposed a bill that would eliminate the mill levy. But the changes would be offset with an increase in sales tax.

Peterjohn said the changes would attract more businesses to the area.

"I think we would improve our tax climate, and our economic competitiveness if we reduce property taxes in sedgwick county," he said.

The other commissioners have not commented on the proposal. Peterjohn said he also wants to hear input from the community before putting the issue up for a vote.

There is no time frame on the measure.
