The Wichita city council's airport naming committee self-reports an open meetings act violation.

We don't know many details about the violation, but the county attorney's office  confirms the unannounced meeting. The open meetings act is a rule city groups must follow in order to keep transparency between the people and community leaders.

The committee recommended renaming mid-continent airport to Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport last week.

"We're looking at that now to see if it actually qualifies as a violation," Marc Bennett, Sedgwick County District Attorney.

Bennett did not say specifically if the violation could affect the name change.

"We can ask them to have the hearing again if it's already been done and action has been taken on it," he said.

Under Kansas law, the maximum fine for a violation is $500.
