It was quite a scene at 53rd N. & Hoover Wednesday morning.  A crate of bees fell off of a truck and into the middle of the road, sending a swarm of about 20,000-30,000 bees around the area.

"I had forgotten I had a top heavy hive and when I turned the corner, it tipped," explained hobbiest bee keeper Lyle Jones. "Long story short, they don't like to be disturbed and right now they're a little upset with me," he laughed.

Sedgwick County crews responded to the area and managed to move the box of bees to the side of the road. They encouraged drivers to avoid the area and if they were driving by, to keep their windows rolled up.

Jones was back at the scene within an hour of the accident to pick up the box and clean up any of the remaining pieces out of the road.

"I have my suit on and I put them back in the truck and hastily retreat," said Jones. "I do not like this, this is not my favorite part of the hobby," he laughed again.

Jones said the bees should dissipate soon and would fly away and find another hive to live on.  After cleaning up a bit, he said the bees were no longer a hazard to anyone. No one was hurt during the incident.
